in
U.S. Senate Youth Program
Joplin High School senior Autumn Lewis has been selected as one of eight semifinalists for the position of delegate in the United States Senate Youth Program (USSYP). The USSYP is an intensive week-long educational experience and scholarship sponsored by the United States Senate for outstanding high school students who are interested in pursuing careers in public service.
Two Missouri high school seniors will be selected as delegates to attend Washington Week in our nation's capital from March 6-13, 2010. Missouri's delegates and alternates are selected by a panel of staff members from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and The Missouri Bar.
During Washington Week, delegates will meet and learn from elected and appointed officials and will attend briefings and meetings with Senators, the President, a Justice of the Supreme Court, cabinet members, federal agency leaders and senior members of the national media. Each delegate will also receive a $5,000 undergraduate college scholarship to the college or university of their choice.
