9 Selected for Girls State/Boys State
Nine JHS juniors have been selected to attend Boys State and Girls State, summer leadership and citizenship programs to be held in June. Lauren Johnson, Autumn Lewis, Sarah Martin and Olivia Watkins will attend Girls State, and Phillip Davis, Matt McCreary, Steffan Triplett, Collin VanOstran and Caleb Wheeler will attend Boys State. Considered to be among the most respected educational programs of government instruction for high school students, Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion, and Girls State is sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary.

Since the 1930's, Boys State and Girls State have given young people the opportunity to learn first-hand how their state and local governments work. Each year, program participants spend an intensive week of study, working together as self-governing citizens in preparation for their future roles as responsible adult citizens.
