JHS Speech & Debate Team Competes at Nixa
The Joplin Speech & Debate team competed in the Nixa Varsity and Nixa Novice tournaments on November 2nd and 3rd in Nixa, Missouri.
Varsity results were as follows:
- Senior Adam Blood won 1st place Original Oratory for the 4th tournament in a row! Adam also won 1st place in United States Extemporaneous Speaking
and 4th place in Public Forum 2-on-2 debate.
- Junior Andrew Frost earned 6th place in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking and 4th place in Public Forum 2-on-2 debate (as Adam's partner).
- Junior Shekar Dukkipati received a 4th place trophy in Champ division Lincoln-Douglas 1-on-1 debate and was a semifinalist in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking.
- Sophomore Savannah Rivera was a semifinalist in Dramatic Interpretation.
Novice results were as follows:
- Freshman Stewart Pence placed 3rd in Lincoln-Douglas 1-on-1 debate and 2nd place in United States Extemporaneous Speaking.
- Freshman Ken Zhang was a semifinalist in Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking.
Team results were as follows:
- Joplin won 6th place overall out of 28 schools!
- JHS earned a 35 - 29 total win-loss record in debate at both divisions!
The JHS Debating Eagles will be in action again on November 9th and 10th as they travel to Springfield, MO, to compete in the Hillcrest/Central invitational tournament.
