Student Honors
National Merit Award: an award granted to high school students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation on the basis of PSAT scores. The award is broken into levels: Commended Scholars, National Merit Semifinalists, and National Merit Finalists Awards
AP Scholar Award: an award recognizing high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams.
National Principal's Leadership Award: an annual award sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) that is awarded to one hundred high school seniors across the country. High school principals nominate one student leader for the award based on their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs, achievements in the arts and sciences, employment experience, and academic record.
St. John's Student Excellence Award: an award given three times each school year to JHS students who best demonstrate characteristics reflective of St. John’s values – responsible community leadership, excellence in service, and a spirit of innovation. The criteria for this award includes active community involvement and demonstration of academic effort and potential.
U.S. Senate Youth Program: Established in 1962, the U.S. Senate Youth Program is held in Washington, D.C. Two student leaders from each state participate in a week-long government and leadership program in the nation's capital, all expenses paid.
