Family and Consumer Sciences education empowers individuals and families to manage resources while meeting the challenges of a changing society.
Rationale
The purpose of Vocational Family and Consumer Sciences in the Joplin R-8 School District is to provide experiences that encourage all students to acquire skills, knowledge and attitudes to be productive individuals.
Vocational Family and Consumer Sciences develops competencies in the areas of: Foods, Child Development/Patenting, Fashion Design, Career and Family Leadership, Sewing and Housing & Interior Design.
It is the intent of the Family and Consumer Sciences educators to provide authenticity within these courses to enable all students to achieve their fullest potential. It is our desire that the knowledge and skills offered will serve as an incentive for future inquiry and development outside the classroom as an individual, family member, and/or in the choice of a career.
