Missouri Virtual Instruction Program (MoVIP)
The Missouri Virtual Instruction Program (MoVIP) provides affordable, high-quality, standards-based supplemental and full-time online coursework for Missouri schools needing credit retrieval, advanced courses, curriculum enhancements and/or to resolve scheduling conflicts. This new program is backed by legislation from the Missouri general Assembly and is implemented and monitored through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Northwest Missouri State University (NWMSU) in Maryville, Missouri will be providing the secondary program for MoVIP. The university has developed a partnership with e-College for the management system – started in 1996 and is currently serving the Illinois Virtual School, Kentucky Virtual School, Wisconsin Virtual School, Mississippi Virtual School, Colorado's Online School.
Resources being used for this project come from the online curriculum from the University of Miami Online High School (UMOHS)-fully accredited virtual high school, Virtual Sage-currently offering over 180 comprehensive online courses for grades 8-12, and BocaVox- Student Information System specifically designed for online schools and currently used by UMOHS.
NWMSU has assembled this partnership and will be managing the secondary program. NWMSU has been a leader in providing online education to the people of Missouri since 1999. Starting with just 49 enrollments, NWMSU now handles over 3,000 online course enrollments per academic year.
