Communication Arts

Four units of communication arts credit are required for graduation from the Joplin School District for the class of 2010 and beyond. Currently, for the class of 2009, three units of communication arts are required for graduation.

Four units of credit in Communication Arts, including one of which may be speech or debate and two units emphasizing composition or writing skills, are required for graduation from the Joplin School District for the class of 2010 and beyond. The Communication Arts Department consists of fourteen teachers.

Classes offered include Academics Plus, Communication Arts I through IV, Journalism, Newspaper, Transitional Communication Arts I and II, and Yearbook. For the college bound student we offer a wide array of Advance Placement, Dual Credit, and college preparatory classes. The Advanced Placement class is Literature and Composition, and our Dual Credit offering is English Composition I & II. Our college preparatory offerings are Communication Arts I and II pre-AP, Communication Arts IIIcp, and Communication Arts IVcp.
