JHS invites student success through a challenging and well-rounded curriculum delivered by dedicated and highly trained teachers. An impressive and comprehensive selection of Advanced Placement (AP) and College Dual Credit courses offer Joplin High School students the opportunity to extend their learning while offering them the opportunity to earn college credit, and a variety of support services offer intervention to help JHS students succeed and reach graduation.
JHS offers a strong fine arts program, including orchestra. Our music, art, and theater arts programs serve to develop student skill and to cultivate a life-long appreciation of the arts. Budding artists can enhance their skills with advanced courses such as drawing and painting, fibers and metals, and three-dimensional design, and JHS musicians may participate in band, jazz band, choir, and orchestra. An array of musical performance groups offer additional opportunities for students to showcase their musical talents.
For students drawn to theater arts, the JHS drama department presents two impressive productions each year – a Broadway play in the fall and a musical in the spring. Musical productions are collaborative efforts between the drama department, vocal music, and orchestra.
Four years of instruction are offered at JHS in three foreign languages: French, Spanish, and German. For the college bound student, AP courses are offered in all three languages.
Effective technology integration is also a primary focus at JHS. We offer Internet connected computers, wireless student and staff services, online parent communication tools, and a variety of proven technology integration strategies in the classroom.
JHS also offers an impressive array of vocational education courses such as Automotive Technology, Graphic Design and Printing, Culinary Arts, Welding, Computer Networking, Nursing Options, and Landscaping. The courses are conveniently offered at the Franklin Technology Center, adjacent to the Joplin High School campus.
