Eagle Time
JHS Student Incentive Program

Purpose

The purpose of Eagle Time is to provide the students of Joplin High School with a specific time during the school day to complete schoolwork, study, and make up tests. Targeted students will receive extra tutoring. Mandatory study time with targeted tutoring offers the opportunity to increase student learning which will lead to an increase in credits earned, specifically at the freshman and sophomore levels. This intervention is designed to help increase the number of students who successfully complete high school graduation requirements.

The mission and vision of JHS as a professional learning community (PLC) is to incorporate the tenets of effective PLCs and to determine:

  1. What do we want students to know?
  2. How do we know when they know it?
  3. What do we do when students don’t learn?

By intervening with additional strategies such as Eagle Time JHS can more effectively address the third tenet of PLCs - “What do we do when students don’t learn?” This additional strategy has been added to the Joplin High School “pyramid of interventions” to assist students who are not learning or who need extra time and support to meet learning goals.

Eagle Time Goals

  1. Increase student learning which will increase the number of credits earned.
    • Increase the overall passing rate of ALL students to 95% or more.
