JHS Eagle Basketball
Basketball is one of several sports offered at Joplin High School. Girls and Boys Basketball is played in the winter season with freshman, junior varsity, and varsity squads that play a full schedule each season. The season begins with tryouts in late October with practice for each team continuing on a daily basis.
Joplin basketball teams play their home games on the high school campus in Kaminsky Gymnasium. The gym received a facelift with a brand new floor that will be played on for the first time during the 2006-2007 season.
The Joplin Lady Eagles also compete in the Ozark Conference consisting of ten teams from around southwest Missouri. Besides the Ozark Conference schedule, the Lady Eagles compete against teams from near-by states including teams traveling from Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri to participate in the annual Freeman-Lady Eagle Classic played in early December.
The Joplin Eagles also compete in the Ozark Conference as well as assisting Joplin Sports Authority and Freeman with the annual Kaminsky Classic held at Missouri Southern State University in early January. Several local teams as well as teams from the Kansas City and St. Louis area participate in the tournament.
In district play, Joplin plays on the class 5 level and is in a district comprised of 6 area teams. The District’s tournament home rotates between the 6 participating schools.
The Eagles and Lady Eagles regularly participate in summer team camps. Summer Camps are also offered to grade school through middle school students who are instructed on the fundamentals of the game by the Joplin High School staff.
