JHS Vision Statement

To ensure that Joplin High School shall maintain and improve upon its mission, we have adopted the following vision statements:

I. Vision for Future Graduates

A. Self- Reliance

To be successful, graduates must be self-reliant individuals who are persistent, goal-oriented, and motivated. We shall produce distinctive graduates who will combine strong character with internal motivation to succeed in a diverse environment.

B. Interdependence

Graduates shall possess the interpersonal skills and attitudes needed to contribute to both the immediate and global communities. They shall be able to work effectively with diverse populations, demonstrating a respect for the opinions and abilities of others. They shall possess effective speaking and listening skills and exhibit empathy and compassion.

C. Well- Rounded Education

Graduates shall possess problem solving skills, communication skills, and academic skills to succeed in everyday life. Students shall have the ability to take what they have learned and apply it to situations in the real world.

II. Vision for Staff

A. Professional

Staff shall be qualified, well-rounded, and knowledgeable. We shall employ teachers who exhibit a sincere interest in their subject area and lifelong learning. Staff shall model strong ethical standards.

B. Interpersonal

Staff shall exhibit effective interpersonal skills to create positive relationships with students. Staff shall be compassionate, provide basic educational needs, and treat students as individuals. Staff shall take personal responsibility to ensure that each child receives the help necessary for success.

C. Classroom Management

JHS staff shall maintain superior classroom management through careful preparation, discipline, intellectual stimulation, and insistence on productivity. Such management shall be conducted with integrity.

III. Vision for the School Community

A. Academic Setting

Our curriculum shall meet state standards and prepare students for life after high school. We shall work to schedule classes so that each student is able to earn the credits/ courses needed to adequately prepare for post secondary education and employment.

B. Physical Environment

It is our goal to provide a clean, well-supplied, and healthy environment in which our students can learn. We shall do so by maintaining the building and grounds, and ensuring teachers have the resources needed to make learning meaningful.

C. Affective Environment

We shall promote an atmosphere of optimism and familiarity. We shall do this by upholding high expectations, promoting consistent disciplinary procedures, and fostering a comfortable, respectful environment.
