With approximately 7,400 students, the Joplin School District is large enough to offer diverse opportunities for students, yet small enough to share a strong sense of community.

An Award-Winning District

  • Distinction in Performance Award (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007) – For several years, Joplin has been among an elite number of Missouri school districts to receive the state’s “Distinction in Performance” award. This prestigious award is a reflection of Joplin’s increased student achievement and level of academic excellence.
  • Award of Excellence for Professional Development (2006) – Joplin has received the “Commissioner’s Award of Excellence for Professional Development” – an award recognizing the high quality professional development programs available to Joplin teachers.

Curriculum

Joplin schools invite student success through a challenging and well-rounded curriculum delivered by dedicated and highly trained teachers. Students at all levels benefit from Joplin Schools’ exemplary academic programs, fine arts programs, and extensive range of co-curricular activities.

Academic Performance

Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) Results: Over the past several years, Joplin has seen impressive gains in student performance. In 2007, Joplin’s elementary, middle, and high school MAP results all ranked above state averages in communication arts, as did elementary and high school mathematics.   • Joplin is home of the Eagles! Eagle pride runs deep, and we boast a wide array of extra and co-curricular activities that keep students involved. With so many choices... there is something for everyone!

Technology

The Joplin School District is a recognized leader in technology initiatives. Joplin teachers undergo rigorous training to learn how to effectively embed technology into everyday classroom instruction. The district offers:

  • a low student-to-computer ratio (2.5 to 1)
  • a multitude of technology tools within our classrooms
  • a TV production studio filled with industry-standard equipment where students create & produce their own segments
  • a web-based parent communication tool that gives parents real-time access to their student’s grades, attendance, etc.

Board of Education Meetings

  • Board of Education meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month (unless otherwise announced) at the Timothy T. Reynolds Multi Media Center located on the Joplin High School campus.
